Short answer
Pocket awareness means checking the interior pockets first. Pocket placement, depth, stitch density, lining, and zip hardware are easier to compare than exterior leather grain. Buyers who measure pockets catch more mismatches than buyers who skip the interior.
Replica Hermès Pocket Bags: A 2026 Buyer's Guide
Pocket layout by model
Birkin: one zip pocket on one interior wall, one slip pocket on the other. Kelly: slip pockets plus a zip pocket, and the count changes with size and year. Constance: one flat slip pocket. The layout is not fixed across 40 years of production. Confirm the layout for the exact reference and year before you judge a replica.
Six measurements to take
- Pocket opening width, in millimeters.
- Pocket depth, from the top edge of the pocket to the seam.
- Distance from the bag top edge to the pocket top edge.
- Stitch count along the pocket top edge.
- Zip length, slider width, and leather pull length.
- Edge paint width on the pocket rim.
Stitching inside the pocket
Saddle stitching is two needles and one thread, interlaced. On a replica, the inside stitch line often shows a lockstitch: thread loops on one face, straight thread on the other. Turn the pocket lining out and look. Thread color should match the leather. Thread thickness should match the exterior seams.
Lining and blind stamps
Interior leather is often the same skin as the exterior, not fabric. Blind stamps sit inside the pocket on some models. A stamp can be crisp on a replica and faint on a restored authentic bag, so a stamp by itself decides nothing.
Zip hardware
Zip teeth should sit flat and align. On a leather pull, the pull length should scale with pocket depth. A pull that reaches past the pocket edge is a mismatch.
What photos cannot show
Camera angle hides depth. Ask for a photo with a ruler laid across the pocket opening. Ask for a macro shot of the inside stitch line. If the seller sends neither, treat the pocket spec as unknown.
Legal note
Replica bags are not Hermès products. Selling a replica as genuine is trademark infringement in the US. Keep receipts and be clear about what you own.
