The Chanel Reissue 227 is the largest size in the Reissue 2.55 line, measuring roughly 31 x 20 x 10 cm (12.2 x 7.9 x 3.9 in). If a bag sold as a 227 misses those numbers by more than about half a centimeter, it is a 226 or a 225 with a relabeled listing. Everything else in this guide follows from that first check.
Prerequisites
- A soft tape measure and a rigid ruler
- A kitchen scale that reads in grams
- The published size chart for the Reissue line, printed or saved
- Good daylight, no yellow indoor bulbs
Step-by-step checks
- Lay the bag flat and measure the base from seam to seam. Write down the width in centimeters.
- Measure the height at the center of the body, from the bottom edge to the top of the flap, with the flap closed.
- Measure the depth at the widest point of the gusset while the bag is empty.
- Compare all three figures to 31 x 20 x 10 cm and allow a tolerance of plus or minus 0.5 cm.
- Weigh the empty bag. A full-size Reissue in aged calfskin typically lands between 850 g and 1,000 g. A bag under 750 g usually means thin leather or hollow hardware.
- Examine the leather in daylight. Aged calfskin has a matte, faintly crinkled surface with soft sheen at the fold lines, not a uniform plastic gloss.
- Count stitches along the flap edge over one inch. Even spacing of roughly 9 to 11 stitches per inch is the target, with no drifting or doubled stitches.
- Inspect the turnlock. The Reissue lock is a flat rectangular turnlock with no interlocking CC on the face, and it should engage with a firm quarter turn.
- Check the chain. The Reissue uses an all-metal chain with no leather interlace, and the links should feel solid rather than springy.
- Open the flap and confirm the lining color and pocket layout. A zip pocket sits under the flap, with slip pockets against the back wall.
- Look for the date marker. Chanel used hologram stickers and cards through 2020 and moved to a metal plate in 2021, so the marker must match the year the bag claims to be.
Red flags
A listing that shows only styled photos and no flat measurement shots is a warning. So is a seller who quotes dimensions in inches only, since most factories work in centimeters. Be cautious with any bag whose chain drop is described loosely as "adjustable," because the Reissue chain is fixed. Ask for a photo of the bag next to a ruler on all three axes before you commit.
Legal and practical notes
Counterfeit handbags infringe Chanel's trademarks. Selling them is illegal in the United States, shipments are subject to seizure at the border, and Chanel will not authenticate, repair, or service a counterfeit bag. Resale value is effectively zero, and payment disputes are hard to win when the item is contraband. Treat any measurement mismatch as a reason to walk away rather than negotiate.
