What the Galleria Saffiano is
Prada released the Galleria in 2007. The name comes from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. Saffiano is a wax-treated calfskin with a crosshatch grain. Mario Prada patented the finish in 1913, and Prada holds the Saffiano name as a trademark.
The medium Galleria measures about 30 cm wide, 21 cm high, and 15 cm deep. Prada lists mini and large sizes as well. Each size has two top handles, a detachable strap, a triangle logo plate, and three compartments.

- Authentic, new: about $3,900 to $4,300 at Prada, based on size and year.
- Authentic, resale: $1,500 to $3,000, based on age, color, and condition.
- Replica, low tier, $90 to $150: PU or bonded leather, plated hardware, wrong dimensions.
- Replica, mid tier, $150 to $280: split leather with a pressed grain, better hardware, close dimensions.

No copy uses Prada's Saffiano. Other tanneries sell saffiano-style hides with a printed grain. Grain depth and sheen differ from the original.

The logo plate is metal with enamel letters. Edges are sharp, and the letters sit level. Copies show thick enamel, blurred type, and plate edges that bend light in waves. Real hardware has weight. Handles on a real Galleria sit straight under load.
Interior
Prada lines the Galleria in matching leather or nylon. The interior holds a logo plate and a serial number tag. Copies use thin fabric, glue smell, or a tag with a font that shifts between letters.
Legal risk in the US
US Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit goods. The agency states there is no personal-use exemption for counterfeits. Trafficking carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine for a first offense under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Trademark owners can sue for statutory damages of $1,000 to $200,000 for each counterfeit mark, per type of goods.
