Short answer
A counterfeit Alma PM fails on measurable details: the date code or RFID chip, stamp depth, hardware weight, stitch count, and the alignment of the Monogram pattern. Louis Vuitton sells the Alma PM in its own stores and on its own website. No discount site, outlet, or marketplace listing is an authorized channel. Any Alma PM priced far below retail needs inspection before money changes hands.

Date codes and chips
Louis Vuitton stamped date codes from the 1980s until March 2021. Format: two letters plus four digits. The letters mark the factory. The digits mark month and year. Counterfeit codes point to factories that do not exist, or repeat across bags from one batch. After March 2021 LV moved to an RFID chip sewn inside the lining. A 2022 or newer Alma PM carries no stamped date code. A seller who claims a new bag has a date code is describing a fake or an older bag with a swapped lining.
Stamp, stitching, hardware
Find the "LOUIS VUITTON" heat stamp on the front leather patch and inside the bag. Letters sit on a baseline, share one height, and hold a sharp edge. Counterfeit stamps look shallow or burnt. Stitch count stays even at roughly 8 to 10 stitches per inch on the handle tabs and trim. Hardware on Monogram pieces is gold-tone brass with real weight. Fake hardware is light and the plating flakes at the corners.
Monogram pattern alignment
The LV letters and flower symbols run in straight lines across the canvas and meet the seams at matching points. Counterfeit canvas shows the pattern drifting, tilted, or cut through the middle of a symbol at the seam. The "LV" mark is symmetrical on real canvas. Copies show an off-center L or an extra-wide V.
Price and channel checks
US retail for the Alma PM sits in the low thousands of dollars and climbs with each price increase. Listings at $200 to $400, or labeled "mirror quality", "1:1", or "AAA", are counterfeits. Counterfeit goods are subject to seizure at the US border. Import and trafficking carry civil and criminal penalties under 19 U.S.C. and the Trademark Counterfeiting Act.
Inspection checklist
- Check inside for an RFID chip or a date code that matches the production year.
- Weigh the bag. An Alma PM with brass hardware and padlock is heavier than a canvas copy.
- Count stitches on the handle tabs and both zipper ends.
- Compare front stamp letterforms to photos from Louis Vuitton.
- Trace the monogram lines at every seam.
- Ask for the receipt and the store name. Louis Vuitton does not invoice through resale platforms.
Unknowns
Chip data is not readable without LV equipment, so buyers cannot verify a 2022 or newer bag at home. Factory code lists are incomplete. Treat any single detail as one signal among several.
