Check the Quote Against the Build

Set a budget before you open a listing page. Ask what leather, hardware, and stitch count the seller uses. A price with no build details is a guess.

Sellers list fake Hermes bags from $50 to $3,000. The spread comes from four parts: leather, hardware, stitching, and stamps. Hermes does not publish data on counterfeits. Real Birkins sell at auction from $10,000 to $500,000. Numbers below come from seller listings and buyer reports. Treat them as estimates.

Reported Price Tiers

  • $50 to $150: PU or split leather, stamped hardware, machine stitching. Shape and color vary from the original.
  • $200 to $500: Cowhide, plated hardware, some hand finishing. This tier is common on seller sites.
  • $800 to $3,000: Full-grain or Togo-style leather, hand stitching, plated hardware, date codes. A Birkin-style bag sits at the top of this band.

Parameters That Move the Number

  • Leather: Togo, Epsom, Clemence, and Barenia cost more than PU. Exotic skins add hundreds.
  • Hardware: Steel with plating at the low end. Solid brass at the top.
  • Stitching: Machine saddle stitch runs 6 to 8 stitches per inch. Hand saddle stitch runs 9 to 11.
  • Size: 25cm and 30cm Birkins carry higher resale prices than 35cm and 40cm.
  • Stamps: A heat stamp and year code that match the model add cost.

Pitfalls

  • Photos of a different bag. Ask for a dated photo of the item in hand.
  • Payment by gift card, wire, or crypto. No chargeback path exists for these methods.
  • Stock that never drops. A seller with 40 Birkins in 10 colors is working from a catalog.
  • Labels such as 1:1, mirror, or AAA. No standard backs these terms. Any seller can print them.
  • Customs seizure. US Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit goods. The personal-use exemption does not cover trademarked counterfeits.
  • No service. Hermes will not repair, authenticate, or service a counterfeit bag.

Legal Facts in the US

Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Penalties reach 10 years in prison and $2 million in fines for a first offense by an individual. Hermes holds registered US trademarks for the Birkin name, the logo, and the trade dress. Import of a counterfeit bag carries seizure risk and civil liability. Sellers face civil suits from the brand owner.
