Answer: check four points on the strap. Engraving on the metal clasp. Stitch count. Edge paint. Leather grain. A fake strap fails at least two of the four. Givenchy changes hardware by season, so confirm the model and year first.

Clasp engraving

Givenchy strap clasps carry the brand name engraved into the metal. The cuts sit in a recess. Depth stays even across the letters. Fake clasps use laser etching. The letters look pale and flat, with a soft edge. Drag a fingernail across one letter. Engraving catches the nail. A laser mark does not.

Weight is a second test. Real hardware on an Antigona strap is plated brass. Fake hardware is zinc alloy. The fake clasp feels light for its size. Plating flakes at the swivel joint after short use.

Stitching

Find the stitch line where the leather tab meets the clasp. Count stitches in 1 inch (25 mm). Givenchy leather goods sit near 8 to 10 stitches per inch. A fake shows 5 or 6. On a real strap the thread sits flush with the leather surface. Thread that stands proud, or holes punched wider than the thread, points to a copy.

Edge paint

Edge paint on a real strap goes on in thin coats, then gets sanded flat and sealed. The finish reads matte with a low sheen. The line stays even around each curve. Fake edge paint is thick and glossy. It lumps where the strap folds. Check the keeper loop, the sliding band that holds the strap end. That is where a paint ridge shows first.

Leather grain and thickness

Antigona and Pandora straps use box calf or smooth calf in most seasons. The grain is fine and the pore pattern shifts across the surface. Fake leather with an embossed finish repeats the same pore shape over a wide area. Press the strap with a thumb. Calf lifts back. A plastic finish creases and holds the mark.

Length and width

Measure the strap from clasp tip to clasp tip. Measure the width in mm at the narrowest point. Compare both against the figure Givenchy lists for the model. A strap built for a Mini Antigona will not match a Small. If a seller cannot name the model or give the drop in inches and cm, treat the strap as unverified.

Tags and codes

Givenchy does not stamp a date code on the strap. Codes sit on a leather tag inside the bag or on a card. A number pressed into strap leather is not a Givenchy feature.

Hardware, thread, and paint change between seasons and factories. Some copies come close. Ask for the model name, the season, and the strap drop before you pay.
